CRLT Players Theatre Program Staff
Jeffrey Steiger, Artistic Director, CRLT Players Theatre Program
Jeffrey Steiger is the Director of the CRLT Theatre Program at the University of Michigan and has been working in theatre and with interactive theatre techniques for over fifteen years. His career as an actor and director is formed around the idea of theatre as a compelling agent for social change. Jeffrey has used theatre to work with middle school, high school, and college level students, as well as professors, instructors, and administrators within and outside of the university community. Jeffrey has taught several classes at high school and college levels, all of which focused on the politics of performance as a means for recognizing power differentials as well as a vehicle for personal and societal change. (Voice, Body and Performance Art: when we've gone too far on stage, In Your Face - a class about comedy, and Acting for Non-Actors). Recognized for his interactive approach to theatre, he began directing 'Talk To Us', a troupe of actors who perform theatre sketches that raise issues relevant to the diversity of student life on campus. Through the Women in Science and Engineering program, Jeffrey directed a workshop that focused on gender experiences in the classroom.
