Frequently Asked Questions about GSITO
When and where is GSITO?
The University-Wide GSI Teaching Orientation is held in the Michigan League (911 N. University Avenue). The Fall 2013 event will be held on Monday, August 26, from 1:00-4:15 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday, August 27, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Winter 2014 event will be held on January 6, 2014.
Am I required to attend GSITO?
CRLT provides university-wide GSI Teaching Orientations as a service to the campus community. You should check with the individual(s) who oversee GSI appointments in the department in which you will be teaching to find out whether attendance at GSITO is required for your GSI appointment. All new Engineering GSIs must attend a GSI Teaching Orientation. The Fall 2013 College of Engineering GSI Teaching Orientation (EGSITO) will be held on Wednesday, August 28, in the Michigan League. Additional information about that event can be found here .
I can’t attend GSITO on the scheduled date. What can I do for a make-up session?
CRLT does not determine whether GSITO is required for new GSIs, nor does it host a make-up event. Check with the individual(s) who oversee GSI appointments in your department to find out what its training requirements are. If there is no formalized policy regarding make-up events, CRLT is happy to consult with departments on establishing such a policy. GSI Coordinators can contact Karishma Collette (karishms@umich.edu ) to set up a time to discuss this issue.
What should I bring to GSITO?
Please bring your M-Card to GSITO; we use M-Card scanners to record attendance at the event. Also, we recommend that you dress in layers, as the temperature in the League can vary. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided during the event.
How can I receive accommodations for GSITO?
The Michigan League is wheelchair accessible. If you would benefit from other accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing or calling Karishma Collette (karishms@umich.edu , 734-764-0505).
