Research on Best Practices in College Teaching

This session features key research findings about effective college teaching.  The presenters will identify several "best practices," provide participants with opportunities for self-assessment, and explore implications for teaching at U-M in a variety of contexts.

Using Instructional Technology to Enhance Teaching

How can instructional technologies enhance teaching and promote student learning? Attendees at this concurrent will see U-M faculty demonstrate technologies useful in a variety of disciplines and classroom settings, and talk about how they could use technology to improve learning in their own classrooms. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about 1) C-Tools, U-M's course management software; 2) personal response systems, or "clickers," that can be used to promote student involvement in large lectures; and 3) tools for recording and publishing lectures on the web.

Effective Use of Collaborative Learning: Leveraging Student Diversity

This session is designed for faculty in all disciplines who want to use student groups or teams.  The session will provide information on practical frameworks to guide the design of group activities inside and outside of class. Faculty will learn about U-M students and discuss ways to leverage the diversity in their classrooms by designing effective collaborative learning experiences.
