Course Design and Development

CRLT consultants work with faculty who are designing new courses or revising existing ones. Such collaborations can be particularly useful for helping faculty brainstorm new approaches to teaching the subject matter, consider the coherence of the course, and apply principles of course design and evaluation.

Faculty might meet with a consultant to discuss:

  • incorporating technology into a course
  • infusing multicultural content into a course
  • developing clearly stated goals for student learning
  • developing methods for assessing student learning
  • preparing a learner-centered syllabus
  • designing innovative teaching strategies
  • building in opportunities for student feedback

Teaching Strategies Webpage

GSIs can take advantage of the Teaching Strategies section of the CRLT website for their course planning needs. The website contains a section on syllabus and course design (including an easy to use Template for Syllabus Design), as well as sections on related topics such as Multiculturalism/Diversity in Teaching, Testing and Grading Issues, Academic Integrity, Writing Assignments, Group Work and Cooperative Learning.

CRLT Library

GSIs can also take advantage of CRLT’s in-house library, which has books on course planning as well as a collection of sample syllabi for courses with a multicultural emphasis.
