ANNUAL LUNCHEON ON GSI TRAINING & SUPERVISON

Strategies for Handling Difficult Situations with GSIs

Have you ever wondered how to best handle difficult issues when working with GSIs (e.g., supporting a GSI who needs to quit his/her position for medical reasons or meditating a strained faculty-GSI relationship).  If so, you will have a chance to explore these unexpected situations and other case studies at the upcoming annual meeting for faculty and staff GSI coordinators.  During the session, panelists from the offices of the Academic Human Resource, Ombuds, and other campus support services will share some of their best practices for managing difficult situations and answer participants’ questions. CRLT has resources available to assist schools, colleges and departments as they develop or improve training programs to meet the needs of their GSIs. CRLT staff are available to discuss general issues of GSI training with GSI Coordinators, Graduate Student Mentors, or other departmental representatives. Such discussion can include how best to incorporate CRLT resources into a GSI training program. Read more »

CRLT offers several programs and services specially for new GSIs in order to help them  prepare for their first classroom teaching experience at the University of Michigan.

Each semester, CRLT provides a campus-wide GSI Teaching Orientation for all new GSIs as a service to the campus community. Future orientation dates are:
